During elections political parties don't hesitate to use new media, like Facebook and Twitter, to spread political messages and win votes. While the voters can easily distinguish objective and trustworthy information from propaganda in traditional media (advertising, flyers, promotional videos), they encounter more difficulties to do the same for messages on social media.

Above all, Belgium lacks of an efficient legislation or supervisory body that ensures a correct course of action during the election campaigns.
